HELP Smell

Hi girls.can anyone give me any suggestion's as to how to rid the house we have just bought of cig smoke? the carpet is too good to just rip up also it's All through the house so would cost quite a bit to replace , the house has been empty for 12 months while the owner was in hospital then moved to be with her daughter and put the house on the market.
As some of you know I'm moving for health reasons myself so I'm not looking forward to the move ! now this smell is making the move all the harder for me. Didn't know cigarettes could smell SOOOOOOOOOOO bad.  I did /do smoke under stress I keep going back to the rotten things but if I do have one it's outside and not right next to other people.
ANY help would be great we will be having the carpet cleaned

Bi-carb is a wonderful de-oderiser for the carpets...and what Chooky suggests sounds good Bell...

Hi isabella - oh this is a tough one, poor you. I agree with Chookyblue - wash absolutely everything you can. If its possible, dry clean or wash curtains/blinds, wipe down as many surfaces as you can - especially walls and ceiling. I'd just use ordinary detergent or vinegar and bi carb. And of course, lucky it's heading into warmer weather - open up the house as often as you can. Good Luck with the new house :)

I don't have any suggestions to add to the other comments, but it sounds yukkie. I thought people smoked outside these days, but I guess if they live alone they can do as they please. Good luck.

Good old bi-carb as suggested, and sugar soap for all the washing as chooky suggested, cigarette smoke leaves a greasy residue so thats why the sugar soap. Windex ( alcohol content ) is also good. Good luck.

When we bought our current house we had to shampoo the carpets twice three months apart and wash walls and ceilings down with bleach mixed with water. Our house still stank 12 months later until we finally repainted it. I know that this is probably not what you want to hear but if you can get it washed down, repainted and then clean the carpets last you will be in a much better off.
